Swashplate leveling is common and essential for rc helicopter, and is necessary for hands-free hover, with the trim stay at its center. The aim for swashplate leveling is to make the swashplate parallel to the rotational plane of main rotor blades. Read the rest of this entry »

This coming-soon flybarless rc heli has just announced by Walkera, which highly focus in flybarless helicopter production lately. The streamline canopy in red is cool, with the black cockpit glass and some hexagonal fading-out pattern. Unlike other walkera flybarless heli with 3 axis gyro, V370D01 is equipped with brush motor which is not very welcomed by pilots. Since brushless motor is much efficient with longer life span, some even said will buy it only at very low price. And with the size of 47cm and weight of 267g, I expect it can fly outdoor or at least handle slight breeze. But, at the time of writing, didn’t see any video yet.

Blue Container Heli

Stubble upon this awesome video today, I was surprised by this weird flybarless blue container helicopter! It was designed by a group of young engineer in Cape Town, South Africa.

Stunning isn’t it? And I discovered the prototype in 0:05 is coaxial with flybar! But I wonder why there is a landing skid while it has such a flat bottom. Read the rest of this entry »

Where does Throttle Ratchet come from?

If you unscrew the back of the transmitter (Tx), you will find a metal ribbon behind the throttle stick. And there is usually a V-shape notch on the metal ribbon and contact with the teeth on gear which create the strong friction against your throttle input. And this is good for beginners, as the stick will stay where you hand off.

But some pilots hate this, because sometimes rc helicopter requires very precise throttle input for hovering. Sometimes will be annoyed that 1 click up would rise your heli and 1 click down would make it go down. So, here are few simple modifications to get rid of it.

Sandwich a Plastic Strip

Here’s the Brooks’s DX7 AIR smooth throttle modification. Just cut some strips from plastic transparent packaging, then sandwich between the gears and metal spring. That’ s all!

Alternatively, some may slipped a piece of fuel tubing or heat shrink over the metal. Read the rest of this entry »
